The Tragus Piercing..

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to get my tragus pierced.

Many things have prevented me from doing this..first I wanted it just before my finals and I thought it best to get them out of the way.  Then I finished those and got too busy with my LPC that I totally forgot about the piercing.  I promised myself I'd get it pierced after my LPC exams but then that Summer flew by and before I knew it, I was getting ready to start my lawyering..and a tragus piercing didn't really fit in with the grand scheme of things.

A few years down the line and I've decided that I am definitely going to get this piercing before I die..not that I'm looking to die any time soon!

It's not that I'm scared of the pain...  I've got a few piercings but they are all through fleshy parts and I am well aware that the tragus is that semi bone-y part.

Look how pretty this piercing is..

I've been looking for pics online and I quite like the look of this vertical(?) tragus piercing..and it wouldn't be so obvious..

Having said that, I really really like these piercings.. and the set of three above.
Also, another issue I have is the headphone thing.  I dislike over the head headphones and I know that normal headphones are hard to slot into your ear when you've got the tragus piercing..

If anyone who reads this has a tragus piercing, share your experience!  How painful is it?  How long does it take to heal?  What's the headphone situation?

  1. I'm exactly the same as you. I had my nose pierced recently, kept forgetting about it and consequently caught it on EVERYTHING. I would definitely have the headphone issue. Although, that last photo looks really cool xx

  2. I've had mine piereced since high school and it did hurt, but not majorly (although I have heard some people say it was really painful, so it depends on the person I guess.) .. Mine took about six months to heal fully and now I can do everything as normal, even use normal in ear earphones, I just make sure the stud isn't in the way and slip the earphone in. I say if you like it, go for it. :)

  3. I have a tragus piercing and it didn't hurt at all, but it did take a little while to heal as all cartilage piercings do. As for headphones, I use nose studs in my tragus and they sit really flush to the back of the tragus, so your headphones just sit as normal :D

well, i did mine around 3 yr back n i did it by my own. yeh it hurts a bit more that other fleshy parts. mine took 15+ days to heal n when its totally cured your headphn not gonna hurt you at all. but might feel slightly uneasy. and you need to be careful when you choosing pins like tiny pins are good to wear. :)
    happy piercing !!!

  7. It never occurred to me that the tragus can be pierced. I'm glad I discovered that possibility here. You should really get the piercing. Even the photos posted here are inspiring indeed, urges you to finally get that gorgeous look. Best of luck for that endeavor.

  9. I had mine done around 7 weeks ago, I clean it 3 times a day and have had no major issues. It swells up sometimes and goes a little crusty but its normally because I've knocked it or slept on it and my good piercer friend said that's totally normal. 100% worth it.

  10. I just got mine done about two days ago, and I am wearing ear-buds with only minor pain. Take Motrin/Advil for any swelling and keep it clean and you should be fine

  11. 8 weeks to 6 months to heal, depending on your health and how long you take to heal - cartilage piercings will always take longer than ordinary flesh ones. I use a labret car in mine which has a flat back and an attachment on the front, or a small captive ball ring - I find that healing with a ring will avoid a keloid scar or blow out better than a bar though. DO NOT GET THIS PIERCING (or any others for that matter, but especially not anything on cartilage) WITH A GUN - guns can shatter the cartilage and cause you huge issues.

  12. The tragus piercing isn't that bad for earphones, with a flat back it was fine, just a bit fidgety but I now java ball as the back (an inverted bar) and its pretty much the same. I've had mine 6 months and it's doing fine with no infections. It still hurts when the bar is changed but other than that it ls perfect :)

  13. I actually JUST got mine done about 6 days ago. The piercing itself didn't hurt. The clamp? Yeah.. that's another story. I love mine so much, and it was only sore for about 2 days, then I kinda actually forgot about it. Btw, keep the boyfriend away from your ear. They tend to forget that they can't be jerked around :P But anyways, I'm having the headphone problem right now, as I type. I normally use my buds to listen to music while I'm doing homework, and it's kind of a little annoying, especially for the new apple headphones. In about another week or so, I'm going to get the stud changed out, preferably for something smaller, and that doesn't stick out so much. In conclusion, don't let the headphone problem take this experience from you. You'll always figure something out. It's definitely worth it if you want it that much. It's easy to clean and it looks so pretty. Go for it :)
