A tale of 12 moisturisers..

I jumped onto the bandwagon of daily body moisturising back in 2005 when I had finished my law degree and was working the summer before doing my LPC..a bandwagon which I quickly disembarked when I realised just how heavy the workload of the LPC was.

But, I hear you say, that was nearly 6 years ago, why are you still packing heat?  Well, I was moisturising during the interim, albeit sporadically.  I also kept buying more and more in the hope that I'd once again have the time to moisturise everyday because, you know, getting the LPC out of the way was the hard part, not what came after it *ahem*. 

I've reviewed the Aveeno ones in detail here but pace yourselves for a speed review of the rest.

Olay Body Quench Mousse:  If you use too much, you will feel sticky and greasy for ages.  I find the best way to use this is to squash it into your skin and then slide your hand down to let it soak in.  This makes your hands sticky and this will transfer onto the canister.  On the plus side, the bottle lasts an age.  It is also very cheap.  It cost me £1 from the Pound Shop and it is a permanent fixture as I have always seen it there.  They have another variant for people who have normal skin.  If you moisturise after shaving/waxing, don't use this as it stings like a motherfudger.  

Would I buy it again? No.  It doesn't give my skin enough moisture and takes ages to dry properly.

Boots Botanics Nourishing Body Butter: This one is a bit odd because I've got the miniature version and the full sized one.  The mini one is hard to work in and feels like a typical butter whereas the larger one is far more fluid and easier to work in.  The smell is a mixture of CK One and new car smell, it has a "high end luxury" smell.  The larger one will set you back £5.62, the mini one is £2.03 and both are available from Boots.

Would I buy it again?  Hell yeah.  The larger one has been purchased many a time by me before and as it comes in a jar, it's a win win situation.

Boots Botanics Moisturising Body Balm: This is silkier than its aforementioned counterpart and I prefer to use it when I haven't had a shower as I don't feel it works as well on wet skin.  I shower in the morning and thus use this at night.  I can't quite put my finger on what the smell reminds me of but it's a nice, fresh smell.  Texture wise, it feels like a cream.  This sinks in quickly and the smell stays for a decent amount of time.  There's no need to wash your hands after applying it and it leaves your skin feeling nice and soft.  It will set you back £3.17 from Boots which is a decent price as it lasts a fair while.

Would I buy it again? No, I need something thicker.

Garnier Body Ultra-Softening Lotion: I must be a marketer's dream, you tell me something about a product and I will buy it.  This lured me in with its claims of "skin feels intensely hydrated for up to 7 days".  Why I couldn't see the "up to" bit is beyond me but once I got back to my desk and actually read it, I realised you had to use it for 4 weeks before getting the 7 day moisturised effect.  If you ask me, that's a bit of a con because by that time, you'd be adequately moisturised with any moisturiser so I want to know what is special about this one.  I have been using it for about four days now and I like it.  It makes my skin feel softer and smoother which is quite rare for me.  When I touch my arm or something, it feels smoother than it ever has, I even felt that after the first application.  The smell is nice and it lingers which is welcomed by me.  It is "ultra softening" in my humble opinion.  The packaging gets slippy quite quickly so I have to "wipe" my hand on my leg properly before squeezing it to get more moisturiser out.

Would I buy it again? At the moment, it's a yes.  Plus, it was on offer for £1.99 from Superdrug.

Liz Earle Energising Body Lotion:  The perfect consistency and sinks in very very quickly but leaves my skin feeling soft.  It doesn't leave me greasy at all and I don't have to wash my hands after applying it.  However, the smell is really, really strong.  If you like products that have a typical cream-y smell (you know the smell I mean), you won't like this.  It smells very strongly of herbs, my mum is convinced it is ginger but I'm not sure because it smells nothing like my beloved Origins Ginger scrub.  This will set you back £16.50 for a full sized 150ml tube and £4.75 for a 30ml tube.

Would I buy it again? No, unless they drastically changed the smell.

Anyone else hoard anything beauty related or am I alone in this one?
